Seeing families that are suffering from this just makes me very upset. Like they said in the article, when someone’s family member dies the town comes together or when a church needs a new roof, the town comes together and tries helping. Just hearing how there are still 30 people still missing, and 21 people so far have been found dead is just not okay. Trying to wrap my head around the fact that people are buried underneath so much mud and have no way out is terrible. It explains how people and family members are searching for people and nobody’s getting paid, at least not yet. People are putting food on people back porches to help them survive and it makes me think if something happened like that in Alden, would people try helping? Even if people find the rest of all of the bodies, things will not go back to normal for a long period of time.
The amount of people missing or killed from this tragic mudslide is astounding. I couldn’t imagine being put into that situation where a bunch of people I know are or could be harmed due to Mother Nature. I do think that it is great that the community is coming together to help out each other in this horrible tragedy despite the situation. This reminds me of the 2006 October storm, when the Village of Alden, amongst other groups, came together to help each other recover and look forward. I think that it will take quite a long time before this area can go back to normal because it will take a very long time to move all of this destruction out of the way. I think that even with small efforts from each person, it could dramatically affect the people of the town. This mudslide is an terrible disaster, but it brought the people together in the way that they weren’t before.
It's good to see how a community can rather together under one banner, and help each other out. In this day in age, we have people who are scared of others because they could be possible, thieves, killers, pedophiles, all these are because of distrusts and how the media portrayed the possibilities of what people are. People don’t trust each other, and when someone shows generosity, people think it has a deeper more cynical meaning than it actually does. So, to find a community like this really makes a good impact on those false rumors of being not being trustworthy. Though something that I don’t think I should’ve been surprised about, but it’s something that angers me is the government’s involvement. They are just sitting back, counting their dollar bills, and deciding how the next election will go instead of caring for the country. I understand they can’t help with all cases of natural disasters in the country, but maybe a little help or at least at acknowledgement of this event would be comforting. I am no one to judge though, just one to state my opinion.
The landsides in Washington State are very tragic to say the least. The landslide wreaked havoc on the town of Darrington, Washington and took a major toll on the people. The people of this community are a tight knit group of people and are hit hard when something tragic happens to one their own. The toll that this disaster has is of an emotional and mental toll. The volunteers searching for survivors are pulling dead bodies out of the mud and debris. I wouldn’t be able to deal with that, especially if it’s someone I know or someone I’m close with. The death toll is at 24 and there are still 30 people missing. With all of the destruction gloominess, there is a positive. The fact that this town is pulling together to get through this and people are offering their resources, whether it be monetary support, emotional support, or just offering equipment like tools, trucks, and heavy machinery. This is an example selflessness and the good people have in their hearts to help out others.
I find it touching that all of the people in this community are coming together to get things done. However, the government should be sending in assistance seeing as most of the people that are still missing are related in some way to the people of the town. It’s horrible how many people have died or are missing. This landslide has closed off this small community in need of assistance from all of the surrounding areas. They are now isolated and in need of money and manpower/emotional support. This must be a very trying time for them, but they all came together with their equipment (or just with their bare hands) in order to find the dead and missing and to clear their town of debris. There is also another problem. This town never fully recovered from the downfall in their timber and logging business in the 1970s. Residents and people everywhere are afraid that this time the town won’t bounce back enough. I hope that help will be sent to these grieving families soon in order to assist in their time of need.
This is a very interesting topic. And in all reality it could happen anywhere. It is really nice to see that the community is coming together and helping each other out in every and any possible way. I couldn't even begin to think what I would do if I was in this situation. Having family members die out of no where just because of a random mudslide. It is actually terrifying just thinking about what would happen if that happened in our area. It is a scary thing to think about honestly. I don't think anyone would ever want to have to deal with that, let alone think of what they would do if that happened. Of course natural disasters happen all the time, but just thinking about the harm it can do to so many people is frightening. It just goes to show that despite the differences in a community it can still be brought together.
The landslide that occurred in Washington State was very tragic and affected many people. This impacted the friends, families and even some neighbors or the victims. Many people have been pronounced dead while many people have still yet been to be found. The rescue teams say it is too dangerous to search for some of the people but they say they can hear people screaming and crying. People are coming together and doing anything they can to help out the people that have been affected by the slide. The search and rescue teams that have been working have been pulling out dead bodies out from under debris. This has affected people mentally and physically not knowing if someone you know is dead, alive or hurt. To just think that people are underneath mud and or debris are starving and thirsty and probably hurt or even dead and their families have no idea if they are dead or alive under everything.
This is a very sad topic, but it’s also really nice that the community is working together to try and find people or take care of others. It’s a helpful effort. Without the people in the community they would have had to wait for the government to send people to help take care of the area. Who knows how long that would have taken without the community taking care of each other? The community taking care of each other helps show that they are willing to help, but my only question is isn’t it the loggers fault for the landslide? The loggers helping isn’t really a noble thing it’s kind of like them trying to get even. It was their fault from what I’ve read in other articles, so they better help take care of people. I just feel like it is their responsibility to take care of them and try to make their lives easier.
Natural disasters like this one are very sad and affect so many people. Just like with hurricane Katrina there will be long lasting effects and things won’t go back to normal for a long time. However, if we can get one positive out of this it is the good people that are there to help and give a hand to people in need. It is nice to know that in this country no matter what terrible thing happens there will always be someone there to give a helping hand and try to make a terrible situation better. Even though homes and lives are lost, there were people who responded to help even before federal agencies did.
This is really a terrible event. Natural disasters are something that every country in the world has a very difficult time dealing with. Natural disasters are unpredictable, and can cause serious problems for everybody involved. We saw the biggest disaster in recent years, hurricane Katrina devastated our nation. We are still rebuilding from that. It will take a very long time for us to fully recover, and even longer for the people who lived there. This isn’t much different from that. This disaster will take the community a very long time to rebuild. The deaths of twenty four people will hurt for a very long time. It won’t be easy. But that is the great thing about America. We have a will to rebuild. We have done it after terrorist attacks, and many natural disasters. We will rebuild, and we will adapt. Please keep everybody who has lost someone in their minds.
I think the saddest thing about natural disasters is that there isn't any way to prevent them whatsoever. It's not just something that can be fixed overnight, either. It will take its toll on some people for a lifetime. People will spend a majority of their lives fixing the damage on their homes and land, but it's sad to know that there will always be that emotional damage there. Many of the victims are going to go through some extremely rough patches, especially due to the fact that they have to re-plan their entire future. However, I think that some people can get good from this by helping out and learning along with each other. People will grow closer from this and that's something that should be taken into consideration. Of course, the path to recovery won't be easy but it will be much easier if there are other people helping around you.
