Technology is changing at a rapid pace and there are no ways around having to use this technology. Yes Google Glass may seem like technology has gone too far, but there is no avoiding it. Google Glass is the future and before we know it, it will most likely be something most of us will own. It seems like we don’t need to have something on our face to communicate with others but it is what technology has become.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to being able to see what our brains are thinking it is very crazy. The evolution of technology is actually very scary. We can see our thoughts now? Personally, I would like to keep my thoughts to myself and have no one else know. It is crazy that when we see a picture or imagine a picture our brain has almost the same brain scan. Who knows what technology will be in 50 years.
While I watched the video about how people can record videos and take pictures with google glass I was actually very impressed with it. I’ve always wondered when I would be able to take pictures with my eyes because half of the time when I want to take a picture of something, I can’t because a camera can’t actually get the picture. It would help with a lot of things because instead of having to use a camera and hold it, you can just wear this on your head like a pair of glasses. But then again, it could be harmful because people can easily get distracted with this. I think it would be a great idea because it would be less work for people and it could capture amazing pictures. Then about the video about devices to capture images from your brain seems a bit different. It would be cool so see what you are thinking and what you are dreaming about and having the chance to actually reply it so you can see. But it just doesn’t seem real. But personally, I think it would be another great idea because I can see a lot of people wanting to see what they were thinking about but never having the chance to actually see it. Also, the lady talked about it being able to cure Alzheimer’s disease and that is a very big deal. But then again, it could cause problems for people because it would lead to think what they are dreaming about could actually be true. But I believe both of these things would be a good improvement for technology.
ReplyDeleteWell I’m going to start this off by saying The Google Glass video was very similar if not the same as the one from last year. The Google glass is a cool idea, but I don’t really think it’s practical. It’s too much connection to the internet at all time. Also that let Google see everything you see while wearing those. The thing with Google and cameras is that they always seem to be watching for “safety.” The reasoning makes sense because if someone were to mug you they would be caught on camera. The Google glass is a phone on your head really. I remember from last year we read an article where people weren’t allowed to wear those in a bar because it invaded customer’s privacy. The other video was kind of interesting. It was on the longer side, but it was alright. It didn’t really make much sense to me. I guess all I can really say about it I’m sorry that she had to lose some of her brain.
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings about both of these topics. I think that both subjects are cool, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are good. With the Google Glass, I already think that people today rely way too heavily on technology. Most teens today are completely lost without their cell phones. It’s a little ridiculous. People should be a little more self-sustaining. I think the concept is cool though, but just like every other piece of technology, it will eventually get taken too far. The brain scanning is cool. I have done a little research on that before I saw that video. It has the potential to become something great. I don’t like the idea of somebody being able to take my thoughts though. If that technology advances enough, and the wrong people obtain it, bad things could happen. Hopefully both of these incredible advancements in technology will not be abused.

ReplyDeleteIt’s clear that the ideas presented to us were in progress for some time and they may still need perfecting. While I believe getting images from the brain will be quite helpful for those with failed memory conditions, I don’t really know if the Google Glass idea is going to do much. It will definitely be helpful in specific situations like the ones shown in the video, but will it really be something that everyone wants? Personally, I wouldn’t want one for the physical aspect of it. Having a strip of metal above my eyes with a bulky device on the side isn’t exactly what I call “physically appealing.” So truthfully, it’s not something I would wear on a daily basis or while I’m casually walking around, which appears to be its intent. Like I said, it will probably be helpful for certain situations, but I don’t see myself requiring that type of equipment in my life.
I do think the Google glass idea is highly likeable. Reason being that, you can text someone, send pictures, record a video, or almost anything else by just speaking and not using your hands in anyway. The hands free idea is what would hook me, especially with getting directions. I love the idea I can have directions at the top right of my vision and not even have to use my hands to get those directions. However, with the idea of being able to form photos from the waves from your brain, I do not support this. This is where I become scared of technology and its capabilities. If it can figure out what I'm thinking about at this day in age, what will it be able to do 10 years from now? I may be paranoid on the subject, but it's still a pressing matter. Will we let technology rule us? or will we rule technology? When comes the point in time where a computer can do more, think, and act on its notions and just be overall smarter than us?
ReplyDeleteBoth of these technologies look amazing. The Google classes are pretty cool but the ways that people can get images out of your head to see what we either are dreaming or thinking about is incredible. The glasses can probably help with people doing some sort of hands on job so they can take or follow instructions better. They could also help with people cooking and being able to follow a recipe. With these benefits I think with these glasses people are going to be more distracted while doing other things. The brain images will help with solving crimes and help with people restoring their memory if they had some traumatic injury of some sort. However people knowing the truth about a lot of things could be bad because some people have a hard time handling the truth. While it can be good thing that people will know the truth. I am very interested to see what will happen with these new ideas.
ReplyDeleteThe two technologies discussed can be of great benefit or of great harm. The first piece of technology is Google glass. The second is the developing of devices that can read images from the human mind. Google glass is pretty much a miniature smartphone on a pair of glasses. The whole point of Google glass is to make it easier to connect with people without wasting time looking at a phone screen. The benefits of Google glass is that it would be easier to connect with people, it brings a futuristic sense to society and it helps eliminate the time spent on a phone and more time actually interacting with people face to face. The negative of Google glass is that it may cause a distraction to people who are driving. The whole point of developing devices that can read images from the human mind is to get ideas out in the world. The benefit pretty much is if someone has a great idea and wants to get it out in the world, these devices could greatly help those people. The negative of these devices is that it can be too personal. These devices create images from human thought, which means it could show things you are thinking about that you don’t want others to see. It also can show what others are thinking about that you don’t want to see. These two pieces of technology are revolutionary in the technology world. To me these two pieces of technology mean nothing. I barely use my phone as it is and I don’t care to know what people think of. Even though these pieces of technology mean nothing to me, it shows me that technology in general is becoming more advanced and people are trying to come up with original ideas instead of trying to take someone else’s.
ReplyDeleteBefore I watched the video on the google glasses I thought that it was the most stupid idea ever. But then when I heard about the brain scanner thing I decided that was probably way more stupid than the glasses. After I watched the video on the google glasses my opinion changed a bit. I think that the glasses could be pretty sweet in some situations or whatever. But I definitely don’t think people need to wear them everywhere and for everything. Maybe while playing sports or something would be cool but other than that there is really no reason to wear them 24/7. The brain scanner thing is really not needed. It is pretty advanced but we really shouldn’t be spending our money on things that like. We really should be spending our money on cancer research or some sort of cure for a disease. Both of these things are stupid and not what we should be spending our time on thinking about.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I think Google Glass is actually awesome. Yes, its ugly. And kind of inconvenient. But who thought that carrying around a cellphone would be attractive or convenient? It’s actually not in a sense. I see the argument that it could be weird to take a picture without a person’s knowledge or consent. How cool is it to be able to capture moments by barely saying a sentence. Would I personally buy one? Probably not. I don’t like wearing glasses as it is. They’re also going to be extremely expensive. Reading images from our brain is also awesome. Unfortunately, not everyone in the world has a good heart. People think about killing other people. Could we prevent that from happening? Unfiltered thoughts aren’t always the best kind. It’s like having that one friend in high school who always says the wrong things at the wrong times to the wrong people. People use many different kinds of outlets to express their thoughts that they can’t put into words. How great would this be if you didn’t have to do that?
ReplyDeleteAfter watching the two videos posted above, I remain transfixed in this state of awe. To see these things that I never even dreamed we could be capable of… I am in awe and I am horrified. We are, as a human race, trying to play God. Maybe it’s just the literate in me, but countless sci-fi and dystopian society novels pop up in my head just thinking about this.
ReplyDeleteThe Google Glasses were cool. I’m a big photographer, I love taking videos, everything’s hand free. It’s just—don’t we see the world through a lens enough? Don’t we stare at a screen (TV, cell phone, computer) enough without having one to plant on our face and carry around? Recently a man (I think in New York City) won in a law suit against him. The law suit was basically claiming that the man was a “peeping tom” because he had been caught taking pictures up unknowing skirts on subways. Rather than getting justice for the countless women whose privacy he’d violated, he won the law suit. It’s legal to take pictures up girl’s skirts. Imagine what could happen with a camera like this. What kind of pictures could perfect strangers take of you? Once those pics are taken, there is no way to get them back because, legally, they’re owned by the photographer. The photographer doesn’t have to delete the photos just because you say so. Having glasses on a face constantly like the man in the video is implying is just another example of how much we’re coming to depend on social media. That’s a bad thing if we can’t go around throughout our day without having something constantly popping up in your face. Whatever happened to living in the real world?
Physically, the problems that might occur (beside too much dependency and addiction) are eye strain, brain strain, and neck strain. Really this project is only at the beginning right now. Who knows what could happen?
And the other one really creeped me out. I can see the benefits, medically. If we can figure out what triggers Alzheimer’s or Dementia or how to cure either of those or countless other mental problems, well then it would be a major breakthrough in medical science. It might even help out a lot of people medically, or help people in comas to communicate. That’s kind of cool, and I’m sure that I’m not the only one that’s wished they could remember what they dreamed about the night before. But isn’t that an invasion of privacy? Isn’t it better to live and let go rather than get hung up on every little thing? Politically, so many things could go wrong, or become abused. Even now the things that we’ve always taken as a right are becoming questioned. Who knows how far this kind of technology will push? We’re already being monitored on the monitor and on our phones; I don’t think I want anyone to see what I think about, or what I dream about. I’d rather keep that to myself.
As it is, we’re playing God. Think about it. Cryogenic freezing, a machine to see into our dreams, taking organs and blood from other people to give to other people, plastic surgery. Maybe I’m just a little bit misled, maybe these kinds of things really do help a lot of people out, but we’re talking about changing the natural order of things. That kind of really freaks me out. It scares me; what this world is coming to. Everything’s becoming a lot like a sci-fi/dystopian society novel, and maybe I read too much, but there are a lot of consistencies that I’m beginning to notice day by day between the real world and the fictional world. What are we coming to?
First of all, I find that both of these technologies would be extremely interesting to use however, we don’t particularly need them. Also, these would be just like a new toy that people will soon tire of. Google Glass would be very convenient because I know that I at least don’t carry my phone everywhere. Whenever I want to take a picture, I don’t have my phone with me. This would make it easier to document what happens in your life. I feel that while it’s seeking to improve human contact, this will be more of a hindrance to it. People will spend more time with the people on Google Glass than with the people that are in the room. As for being able to see what every person imagines…that scares me. We aren’t able to see what people are thinking for a reason, and that reason is privacy. This could also open up new problems such as bullying. Some people don’t think what they really feel because they know that it’s not nice. However, the brain imagery thing would be extremely helpful when you’re attempting to explain something to somebody. I still find that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
ReplyDeleteAt first I did not think that this product was necessary. After watching the videos I noticed that these glasses can do pretty cool things. One thing I dislike this product is that you can do just about everything if not more with a smart phone. I believe that these glasses would become annoying that you would have to wear them around instead of just using it when you need to like a smart phone. Although I think it would be easier to video chat with these glasses due to the fact that everything you see they can see. I do believe that these glasses are useful that you can multi task while using them. You will be able to multi task because you are not using your hands your hands to use them. Another bad thing about these are they are very expensive and I do not believe that they will not sell many of these glasses.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I find both of these technologies extremely interesting. I think that the Google Glass is exceptional. It’s fascinating to see the point of view in which the Google Glass can capture. This is one of the reasons I like it, because it seems like you’re seeing it from your eyes when watching the videos or seeing pictures. I think that it would be useful because human communication would expand immensely. Like the speaker said, there wouldn’t be people looking down at their phones anymore, but looking directly at you and still be able to have that connection. For the brain images, I think that it is also interesting. Even though it seems unrealistic right now to us, I think it would be amazing to communicate just by human thought. But for the “guinea pigs” of the experiment, couldn’t it harm them? It would seem risky to me to be put in this experiment with memory and intelligence at stake.
ReplyDeleteMy personal input on technology can go both ways. I think it can help our society but also harm our society too. I think the Google glass is a pretty cool invention made or discovered. ITs crazy how only little piece can do so much. But I don’t really think it is really necessary to where them at every little thing. I think the brain imaging is a great way to help others with determining facts or solving cases. This can also help find some sense in looking at people's brain injuries as well. TI makes it more capable to finding out more information more rapidly. One downside to the improvements to technology is that it can become more distracting to others, I feel like it will make our society lazier than it already is. Although it does benefit us in ways too. But I think that technology is evolving WAY to fast and it is hard to keep up in today’s world.
ReplyDeleteI feel like the Google glasses are very cool but I think they are very pointless. First off they are very expensive and the only people who are going to be able to enjoy these glasses are people with a lot of money. I don’t know anyone who would want to spend all that money just glasses that can take you to the internet and Like if people want to go on the internet they can just use a computer or there smart phone. But one thing I think the Google glasses would make a lot easier is video chat because it is a pain in the butt on the computer and it is very easy to do on the glasses. I honestly think if they weren’t so expensive it would be a great and cool idea. But like every new thing it costs an arm and leg to buy. Only the rich people can buy and I don’t think that is right at all.
