  1. I'm not sure if I stated this before but, tensions are rising and the way I see it; America is now another Powder Keg. People's human nature is to strive for freedom we want to be free, but the government with its multiple avenues of action have limited us. The anger of the subdued will not be contained forever, they will rise up and cause a monstrous ripple in society. Ignorance is bliss currently in our society, but it only lasted for a short time. People have noticed what they missed, and people are talking of revolting and how things need to change, but why don't they? Simple, all this revolution, all this anger and frustration needs to begin, is one soul. One soul who decides to be the trump piece in our hand, that gives the rest of our Aces a free reign to finally show their true colors, and make what they want to happen. Happen. This is what constantly crossed my mind watching these. Me personal, I don't like the fact people are watching everything I search on the internet, and how my searches are filtered. That agitates me, but what agitates me more is that justice has not been done, and the corporate eye has turned a blind eye to it, because of one purpose. One item in society that now rules our whole world. Money.

  2. These two videos were very eye opening. I just want to start off by saying the second video’s music was very conspiracy theoryish. It all made sense, but I don’t understand how Google or Facebook can do any of this without telling the user. It seems like it could be a helpful tool, but if someone wants to learn more about a controversial topic they should be able to see links for it instead of vacation spots. The internet was made to make everything a lot easier, but it seems like it’s been used more for invading people’s privacy. If people had a better sense of what was going on than this would all probably stop. Nobody asks why this happens. Google started off very helpful, but it seems like they’re trying to control the world with all the companies they’re buying and how much they’ve been expanding. Google is definitely becoming a monopoly, and I believe it should be time for someone to step in and stop them.

  3. I think that both of these videos were incredibly informational, even the second one being only two minutes. People do not realize the capabilities of all of the technology in the modern age. The face that Google is literally trying to obtain all of the books in the world is really scary. If one company or one person has every written thing in existence, they will eventually obtain complete control. Knowledge is power. One of the greatest ways to expand knowledge of any topic is to read. And I don’t mean to read something on the computer that is only a few paragraphs. Read a book. It’s a shame because reading books is something that has been cast aside in today’s day and age. Not many people realize how important it is. The first video is also very informational. If people are only getting information about what they already know, how are they supposed to expand their minds? To put it simply, they won’t. The sad thing is nobody seems to care. People are happy living in their own little, sheltered lives. In the video, the speaker said something along the lines of “A democratic society cannot function properly if the society it represents is not being informed”. That is one of the truest statements I’ve heard in a while. I personally do not want my information to be filtered. I want to know what is going on in the world around me. I have a right to know, as do other American citizens. We have the right; all we have to do is find the information. People need to educate themselves about what is going on in the world today, not only worry about meaningless little things that only concern them. The world is a much bigger place than most people realize. Even though something across the world might not be directly impacting you, in some way it will. It is the scary truth that is the modern world.

  4. These videos were pretty interesting. They gave me a lot of information that I never knew about Google or Facebook. It was weird finding out that Google and Facebook watch what every user searches for on the inherent to limit the feedbacks that everyone gets. They also do this to give better feedbacks to the user based on what that user prefers. I however do not like that Google and Facebook are doing this. I do not like this because when I search for something I’m not always looking for the same things. This could also hurt people that have projects or if a teacher gives them a topic to search then that means each student will have different information coming up in their searches. Also we won’t see both sides of a story or to politics because the only side that will come up is the side that you search for most often. I do not like this at all.

As I watched the two posted videos, I wasn't necessarily surprised or taken back by what I was hearing. I feel as if we've all known and realized this for a long time and we don't think much of it. Of course, I didn't think of it as deeply as I do now that I've seen these videos. In fact, the other day, I Google searched "Garage," which is a clothing store, and I went to YouTube later on and saw an advertisement for the store on the side. It was obvious to me that the internet somehow took a previous search of mine and customized the advertisements I was seeing. This is clearly a perfect example of the internet customizing what I see based on "my interests." One thing that I don't like is that Google might think they're helping us out by weeding out the things we don't usually look at, but what if we're missing out on something truly important because Google is just trying to "do us a favor?"

  6. My opinion on this video about what Facebook and Google are hiding was shocking and interesting. It was crazy that Facebook can look at what people research or click on while the person is looking at something. It’s weird that when someone researches the same thing and that they get completely different results. I’m really not a fan about this whole situation because someone should be allowed to research something without someone watching and tracking what they are doing. Even if someone is trying to do a school project with someone and they are researching the same thing, they could get wrong information and it could not help them. Personally, I think this should not be allowed because it’s only hurting everyone and not helping them.

  7. First of all I find this video pretty ridiculous but not surprising. Technology now a days is truly getting too personal anyways. I think the way Google filters the search results is alright in some situations but I feel as if the person should have their own say in it. Like the person should be about to set their own settings instead of Google thinking for that person and taking things into their own hands. The facebook thing is really strange also. I believe that again, the facebook user should be able to set their own settings to their news feed instead of having facebook doing it for them and not even letting the user know what they are doing. I feel like what the internet has turned into is very scary. Honestly you can’t put anything on the internet that is personal. Because if you do someone will find it and could even steal your identity. All this stuff is really just stupid and I don’t think that Google or facebook should be able to do these things and that the people who have a problem with it should have the right to have a lawsuit against them.

  8. I think it’s bizarre that websites like Facebook and Google are watching what we click on or what we look up mostly. I think that if the results of what we search or the links that we click on are personalized that we will be missing information. This is seen in the presentation in the first video with the comparison of the two screen shots of the same thing googled. I guess it is helpful to have things personalized to personal taste, but there is still information that we can gain that it missing because of this personalization. I think that if we really began and excessively had our websites personalized there would eventually be a loss of continuity and a different viewpoint for everyone because their search results might not give them all of the information they need to crave to have. I think that everyone should have the same search results so that people can learn the same information.

  9. These videos were really interesting. I guess that I probably shouldn’t be surprised about the fact that websites like Google and Facebook are changing what they do WITHOUT telling the public. Yes, they’re trying to make it better for each individual person. Come on, how hard is it to find what you’re looking for just by doing a generic, non-personalized search on Google? Just think about it. Millions, if not more, people use these websites daily. If someone doesn’t know an answer to a question the immediate response is “Go google it”. Personalizing these websites could leave out important information that you might need. It wouldn’t show up because you wouldn’t normally look for it. See the problem? Also, this will make people even more dependent. This isn’t a good thing because people need to learn to accept responsibility and take charge of their lives. They shouldn’t sitting around waiting for other people to do it for them. As for Facebook, I don’t know about you, but I would be extremely mad if all of a sudden one of my friends got deleted because I didn’t “talk” to them enough. Maybe I actually go talk to them in real life instead. Anyways, I think that these websites should at least get the public’s opinion on this topic instead of just changing things slightly in the background.

  10. I do agree and I don't agree with what they are doing at the same time. This has good things and bad things about it. One good thing is if someone is doing something illegal or going to do something illegal Google and Facebook have proof of what they were doing. A bad thing about this is sometimes people don't want others seeing what they are doing. People should have a little more privacy than this. Google and Facebook should not see everything we type in. They should be able to see and access what people search or what they have searched in the past but not what someone is typing because if they don't search it what's the point of seeing what it says. Google should give people more privacy but not total privacy. I also am not surprised people do not know about this because many big corporations hide things from the users all of the time.
