Thank you, Taylor Strickland for this article!

My opinion about this article is actually scared to some extent. It blows my mind that a 15 year old can get on a bottle of a plane basically like it’s nothing. It makes me think that anyone can do it if they actually tried, and the scary thing is that there are bad people out there. With this article being released, it’s probably making people wonder if people can start bombing planes and you won’t even know about it because you won’t know they are on the bottom of the train. They explained how no system is 100%, but I think by now they should make the systems 100% because of what is happening around the world. Not everyone will not cause a treat to people. Now terrorists can have an easier way of doing terrible things because they know that the airlines are a weak part of security.
ReplyDeleteI think my main question is: how did he not get caught? There should have been some airport security that would have been able to see him. Even if he was able to get onto the plane, it should have killed him. I think that it is really bizarre that a teen can sneak onto stuff like that and succeed. They will probably add more airport security because of incidents like this. I think that they should just be more cautious and careful around the planes or make sure that there aren’t any people hiding before they take off. A simple precaution like that could possibly prevent another person from sneaking onto the plane or wherever he was hidden. It astonishes me that a teen was able to do that. You’d think that the six miles of chain link fence that are around the airport would stop him. This just makes us think about who else could sneak onto planes and what we can do to prevent it.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, this story is very eye opening to me. The fact that a young 15 year old boy can do this is just insane. I don’t understand how he didn’t even get caught. It makes you think well hmm if this young man can do this then a sneaky terrorist with bombs could most definitely pull it off as well. What I also am confused about is why would the boy even think of doing something like this. To me this idea sounds super dangerous and extremely dumb. It doesn’t make sense to me. But it definitely scares me and makes me question the security of the planes. Now that this is out and open it gives people ideas. I’m sure after hearing this sort of news it will make people more nervous than ever to travel by plane. And can you blame them? In my opinion this is all on the Transportation Security Administration.
ReplyDeleteWell in my opinion is this is more impressive than anything. This kid ran away from home and made it from San Jose, California to Maui, Hawaii. That’s impressive. He never got caught on his way there. He was caught on cameras in Hawaii, but he turned himself in. This kid could have lived in Hawaii for a while if he wanted. He made it over a fence which is only 6 feet high, but it has barbed wire on it which is impressive. I’m not too sure how he made it over the barbed wire, but that’s impressive as well. He made it past the security at the airport and he made it in the wheel well and survived. This is bad yeah because it shows people could get past the security. This kid wasn't too prepared for this. All he had was a comb and he made it to Hawaii. That’s really impressive.
ReplyDeleteNowadays, especially after 9/11, airport incidents or problems appear all over the TV. From airport baggage checks, to increasing prices, that Delta airline website glitch, to that flight that went missing, to this: a fifteen year old boy who hitched a dangerous ride in an airplane from LA to Hawaii. We’re all so concerned with airplanes, and while we can exclaim and make a big fuss about some of it all we want, we really need to think about why we need airport security to change. They’re not doing it to be an inconvenience to us. 9/11 took hundreds of lives, and hundreds more in the aftermath. Do we really want to risk something like that happening again? Even more than that, this boy is a perfect example of why our airport security has been increasing over the years. He broke into an airport with just a hair comb in his pocket, and got a flight on an airplane without anyone catching on. He probably didn’t know exactly what he was doing, and maybe it was all dumb luck, but what he did was desperate, stupid, and dangerous. In the article it said that he snuck into a wheel well, where he stayed for the duration of the flight and lost consciousness. It said that he could have been crushed, suffocated, or have frozen to death. The only reason he stayed alive was because he was young. It’s just, I guess I can’t really understand why he would do something like this. Maybe it’s just because I’m terrified of flying, or maybe it’s just because I’m aware of all of the facts after the fact, but… why would a fifteen year old run away from home, and hitch a flight to anywhere without knowing for a fact that it was a smart or a safe thing to do? Did he know what he was doing? I don’t know. I think it’s something to consider- this situation, as well as the few that have been popping up in the past couple months. When airport security increases, unless it’s something that’s really, truly problematic, we should consider why they’re doing it. It’s probably just because I’m terrified of flying that I’m saying this, but they’re only being secure for our own good. I, personally, do not want to die on an airplane. What the boy did was stupid, though I’m glad he’s safe- and it was kind of awesome. It all turned out well in the end.
ReplyDeleteThis article made me think about just how safe airport security makes us. If a young 15 year old boy can get through the security and breach into the wheel well of an airplane with just a comb makes the security look embarrassing. I have no idea how he could have possibly of done that. Also how could he have managed to survive down there in the wheel well. It’s honest incredible. I think that some airports have different levels of security. Therefor that’s why you have curtain things and security breaches at different airports. This just proves that different things and security measures should be taken to make sure that everyone is safe. Just a what if here, what if this kid wasn’t just a 15 year old teen that flew to Hawaii without doing any harm to passengers or the plane. What if this kid was someone that had a bomb and wanted to blow the plane up because he would have succeeded. Step up security to save lives.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that a child could sneak on to a plane so easily is a little unsettling to me. It should not be so easy. Not because of the fact that kids can sneak onto planes, but if a kid can do it what’s stopping a serious threat from doing it? Nothing! This could be a serious problem for the civilians aboard the plane. Especially if this information falls into the wrong hands. If people who want to injure citizens of the United States want to, they could very easily sneak onto the bottom of this plane with an explosive device. Airports need to step up their security and not in the lobby like they have been doing. Outside the actual airport is where they need to start protecting. They are too closed minded just thinking that the only threats will come from the inside.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest this story told is pretty awesome and amazed me. It is crazy how this kid traveled from California to Hawaii by sneaking into the wheel well of the airplane. This story was very eye opening to me. I just do not understand how not one single security camera or guard did not catch him. Just by reading this story if a 15 year old boy can think of anything like this and not get caught it worries me that terrorists will be able to do anything. Especially seeing that there wasn’t a single security device that caught the little boy. I feel that after hearing this stories others will be nervous and scared to travel on an airplane because after notifying the public of this incident it could give others ideas to do this too. I believe that the TSA needs to enforce more securities at airports if a kid sneak into the airplane.

ReplyDeleteIt’s surprising that a 15 year old managed to sneak on to a plane, more specifically the wheel well. It makes me think that if a teenager is able to sneak onto plane, that means that someone with an evil intent can just as easily sneak on to a plane. After the 9/11, you would think that security of the airports, not just the searches conducted by the TSA, but the security around the planes themselves so no one can hide a destructive device or themselves on the planes. What also surprised me is the fact that the 15 year old managed to survive the flight. From what the article said, if the teenager was in the wrong place he would’ve been crushed by the wheel. Also the temperatures that the kid had to endure. The temperatures were below zero, about 75 to 80 below. The teenager must have had luck on his side. From what this article tells me, is that airport security needs to be upgraded.

ReplyDeleteConsidering this kid even survived the incident blows my mind. The risks and dangers he endured by sitting inside of an airplane's wheel well were greater than not. And like a reporter said, it was most likely "dumb luck." It doesn't seem possible that a fifteen year old boy has the mental capacity to accomplish such a task, but that just shows that adults shouldn't underestimate the power that a young teenager can possess. I'm not saying that it's a good thing (or bad) that this kid did what he did and I'm definitely not saying he should have done it, but I think that he proved to many people that anyone is truly capable of anything. People fail to realize that anyone can accomplish whatever they want to when put under the stress of fear and hope.
First of all, I don’t quite understand why a fifteen year old boy would want to go hitch a free ride on an airplane (well, besides the fact that it’s free). Also, this isn’t the first time that someone has done this. I mean, he risked his life, and he had to ride alone in a dangerous place anyways! He’ll most likely have permanent brain damage from this event, and I feel bad for him. However, it WAS his fault. Then, there’s the whole issue with airport security. EVERYONE is mad at the security on the inside of the airport but there is also security and police officers outside. How hard can it be to spot a random teenager sneaking towards an airplane? It’s a good thing that the stowaway was just a teenager looking for a free ride and not someone that wanted to bomb something. All things considered, this whole situation could’ve turned out WAY worse. The people on that plane were lucky. As for the security, he only had a comb, so it wouldn’t have shown up. Although, they should be a little more cautious next time.
