  1. In my opinion this is just beyond ridiculous. People take things to a level that isn’t really needed. Does it really matter if the song has something that refers to religion? No, it is way better than a song by Justin Bieber. Which, is a song about a young boy whining and crying about teenage love. These kids are in kindergarten, they don’t even know the meaning of the song. When people start a scene about things like this it really bothers me because they are making a big deal out of nothing. In the Pledge of Allegiance, the word got is being said, but yet every school is required to say it in the beginning of the day. Are they going to start to fight that now too? It is just plain out stupid that people have nothing better to do than complain about a pointless little thing. And the funniest thing is, these kids aren’t going to remember their kindergarten graduation, so in reality this isn’t affecting them whatsoever.

  2. I personally believe that this article is absolutely terrible due to the fact that people think singing “I’m proud to be an American” is a song that is talks about cultures. Wouldn’t you think people would be glad to sing a song like that after everything that has happened so far in our history? The fact that they want their children singing “Baby” by Justin Bieber who I now probably the worst kid any little kids would look up too. Espeically with the song, “God Bless America” people think it’s a bad song for kids to sing, which in any way it’s not because it doesn’t say one bad things about our society at all. Half of the kids probably don’t even know what they are singing because they are so young and put the lyrics from a song together to find the meaning. I just believe that students should be allowed to sing those types of songs and not have to a choice to be able to do it or not. When I was younger, I never had a choice to do it or not. Either way, it’s just showing what type of terrible country we are by making a huge deal over something so small.

  3. I feel that this idea is COMPLETELY ridiculous. Seriously, we’ve all been singing these songs for years. Also, kindergarteners won’t care about it being “politically correct”. At least from my experience, I’ve noticed that most parents don’t particularly care what their children sing or create. They’re just happy to go and see their children be a part of something. In this case that something is kindergarten graduation. The parents are just proud of their kids. It’s not like someone is going to jump up in the middle of the song and yell something about them being offended. The article also brought up the point that these songs are about freedom and people made the choice to move to the United States for that reason among others. They should be okay with hearing these songs because they chose to live here. Another thing is that how long does a song really last? Even if someone is offended the songs will only last for about three minutes apiece. My final point is that now most people in that school district are complaining instead of there just being a few POSSIBLE complaints.

  4. Not sure where I’m supposed to go with this blog. I mean it does not affect me in any way shape or form. I mean sure, yes those songs are about our country, but do they really do anything? There’s a difference between singing about your country, and helping your country. Honestly however the only reason this has made news is because this woman decided to change songs that are closely linked with the US, if they were something else it would probably go unnoticed. The government wants everyone to be proud of our country and respect it, and that’s what some people might do. However in retrospect, how can you be proud of a country that is so corrupt it’s known by everyone basically? Now it wasn’t right for her to change songs that show respect to those who have fought and died for this country, and it makes matters worse when she changed one of the songs to Justin Bieber who is a high priority target for the media because of the argument over where to (if they do) kick him out of the country. Add on what he’s done and how disrespectful, it’s a harder kick in the teeth.

  5. Personally I believe that this whole entire article is pathetic. It disgusts me that these Kindergarteners will not be allowed to sing “God Bless the USA" at their graduation because it’s "not appropriate for them." Principle, Greta Hawkins, took the song out because she didn't want to offend other countries. The reason why there are other cultures in America is so they can have their freedom. IF anything if it offends a person they could not partake in the singing at the graduation. But don't you think it offends the Americans, by taking this out? The principle allows the students to recite the "Pledge of Allegiance" and sing "America the Beautiful" that is exactly the same thing as "God Bless America." I believe that this is a hate and/or racist act by the principle even though she claims it is not. This is just disgracing the words of our history that students learn about today.

  6. The fact that this principal is trying to change this is downright stupid. I sang that song when I was a kid. It’s a tradition. There is no harm whatsoever being caused by it. I understand if you don’t have the exact same views, but their just kids. Just let them be kids. I can also see it from the principal’s perspective too though. You have to maintain some authority being a principal. Not so much with these kids just because the age that they are, but you need to prepare them for the future. I don’t think the principal of this school was intending to make anybody upset, but I also think she is taking things a bit too far. I can see both sides of the argument. My personal opinion is that I think people just need to let kids be kids. Stop putting so much pressure on your six year olds. They are young, and just need to have fun.

  7. This is definitely a controversial topic. It's kind of hard to believe that someone would want to change the songs and switch them with songs. God Bless America is about our country being free and happy. Not allowing kindergarteners to sing the song goes against the song. It's a song. No little kid is going to know the meaning or understand the words. They're going to sing the song and do it with a smile on their face because they at least understand it's about the country they live in, and they would probably much rather sing that song than the other songs they changed them to. I don’t quite understand why people are making a big deal out of little things. Almost if not all schools have had their students sing this song at least once throughout their school career. Some people need to relax about school. No one would complain about the song, and if they did then they wouldn’t have to sing it. They should have made it optional to not sing it instead of completely getting rid of the song.

  8. I completely disagree with the principal of this school. I sang those very same songs that the principal is banning when I was in kindergarten. The school believes that the song “God Bless America” “isn’t an appropriate song” but a song by Justin Bieber is. I don’t know about anyone else but in my opinion Justin Bieber is not a good role model in general for five year olds. I’d rather have five year olds sing patriotic songs about our country than songs from someone with such a negative character as Justin Bieber. It seems that younger kids try to act like the things they are exposed to. I get that the principal doesn’t want a problem to occur between someone and the school. There are people out there that disagree with those patriotic songs, but these are just little kids. They aren’t old enough to worry about things like that.

  9. I think that it’s ridiculous that the public made it such a big debacle that they organized the set list for the ceremony to be songs that won’t offend anyone. I do think that the Justin Bieber song crosses the line when it comes down to songs being age appropriate, but it’s the school’s decision for the songs, not the parents. I think that it is a positive message they’re trying to send by not singing patriotic songs. It’s not like they want to send a message that’s saying that being American is a bad thing, they just don’t want to offend anyone, which I think is very considerate. It’s similar to the Pledge of Allegiance, should students have to recite it? The line “one nation under God,” could have the same controversy, but this time it would be over religion. Overall, I think that the parents are overreacting and it seems selfish that they want their children to sing patriotic songs rather than not offend some people.
